Riyad Mahrez set to make premier league switch

Late last night the Algerian football federation released a statement that they had allowed Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez to leave the national squad to complete a transfer with a European side. The statement read:

“Leicester City’s Algerian international Riyad Mahrez, who is currently with the national team in Sidi Moussa to prepare for the double confrontation against Zambia for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, was authorised by the national coach Lucas Alcaraz and the Algerian Football Federation to make an express trip to Europe to formalise on Thursday his transfer to his new club.”

Mahrez has been heavily linked with a move to Roma who wanted the Algerian to replace the departed Mo Salah. However, Roma were unwilling to meet Leicester’s £40M valuation and didn’t make an improved offer on their final £31.8M. Roma’s unwillingness to meet the valuation has left the door open to other premier clubs to prise Mahrez away from Leicester and it looks like exactly that has happened. Since the AFF made the statement that Mahrez has flown to Europe news broke that he flew directly to London and checked into a London hotel.

Arsenal are now odds on favorite to sign Mahrez but Spurs and Chelsea were both previously interested so they could have revived their interest.

The whole situation is unclear where Mahrez will be at the end of the day especially as Leicester are claiming that they are yet to receive any new bids
