Ian Wright accuses laughable Ozil of hiding behind Sanchez

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has had his say on Mesut Ozil’s recent Facebook post which appeared to criticize former Arsenal players that have been voicing their frustrations about how the season has started.

Wright who is second on Arsenal’s all time goal scoring chart fired back at Ozil describing the social media post as laughable, and when you hear what Wright had to say it’s hard to disagree.

The Facebook post in question started as a celebratory post celebrating 4 years since the German signed for the club, but it quickly moved to addressing some of the criticism that he has faced and during his time at Arsenal, Ozil Wrote:

“Personally I’ve had to accept a lot of criticism during my time in London. ‘Too expensive, too greedy, bad body language, and lacking fight’ – this is what people have said about me.”

“Some of these comments are made by those who do not know me, some are made by former players – both successful and unsuccessful during their time here at the club.”

“Although criticism is something that all football players have to deal with, I nevertheless expected legends to behave like legends – my advice to these former Gunners: stop talking and start supporting!”

Wright who has previously defended Ozil in public thought that the German who has less that 12 months left on his contract and has refused to sign a new one is not in a position to be telling former Arsenal legends what to do. Wright responded by claiming that Ozil has been hiding behind the fact that the media attention has been on Alexi Sanchez, Wright went on to say’

“What are we supposed to say? That they’re unbelievable, in the boardroom, the boss, and the way they’re playing? Because they’re not. I can’t understand it. We’re not talking about former players criticising a team that’s charging up the league and winning leagues”

“Why haven’t you signed yet? That’s what I would say to you. If you feel that strongly, why haven’t you signed yet?”

“You’re not signing a deal and you’re probably going to continue to hide behind the fact that (Alexis) Sanchez is the one that everybody’s going to say, ‘Is he going to go?’.”

“A player that is not actually performing on the pitch is coming out, calling people out and he’s not signing a contract. It’s laughable.”

Arsenal have started the season with a 4-3 win over Leicester, a 0-1 loss to Stoke and a 0-4 loss to Liverpool. Ozil’s comments do seem to be ill timed and he should perhaps wait until he has won something more than the FA Cup before he starts dishing out advice to Former Arsenal Legends.
